aviation de-icing technology
• Application rates vary considerably based on pavement temperatures, forecast, traffic action, and level-of-service expectations
• In general, apply as you would salt brine. However, provifrost saferoad can be used at much lower temperatures
• Provifrost saferoad is best applied early or right before a storm as an anti-icer to prevent ice bonding to the pavement surface
• Provifrost saferoad can also be used at the spreader as a prewetting agent to accelerate solid deicers such as Cryotech NAAC® or salt
• Provifrost saferoad should not be stored or plumbed through systems that use galvanized, zinc, or brass components (may be used on or around galvanized bridge and parking deck components, signage, and guardrails).
• Polyethylene or stainless steel containers are preferred, otherwise use carbon or low alloy steel.
• Best practices include storing IBC’s in areas protected from weather and exposure to direct sunlight. Bulk storage tanks must be clean and free of rust, surface deposits, and residues.
• Non-persistent, readily biodegrades at low temperatures
• Low BOD and toxicity to fish, mammals, and vegetation
• Does not contain nitrogen or chlorides
• Recognized as “relatively harmless” by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife scale
